Most businesses have never checked whether they can be found

The Findability Gap

Almost every business has someone looking after the website. Almost nobody is checking whether the business can actually be found — in Google, in the map results, on the profiles and directories customers read, and now inside the answers AI gives.

Those are five different places, and a business can be visible in one and invisible in the other four without ever knowing. The website looks fine to you, because you know what it says. The question is what Google and AI can work out from it — and that is a different thing entirely.

The Service

A real person, here in Australia, does this work — not a scanner. Someone sits down and looks for your business the way a customer would, then writes down everything that is stopping them finding it.

Four questions the audit answers

Four Questions
I

Can Google read your website setup?

Page titles, headings and descriptions — the parts Google reads that visitors never see. Every page that sells something gets opened and looked at, not just scanned.

II

Is your content working, or fighting itself?

Pages competing against each other for the same search. Content nobody has touched in years. And the pages people search for that you simply do not have.

III

Do you look the same everywhere?

Your Google Business Profile against a 31-point standard, whether you appear in the map results, your directory listings, and whether your details match across every one of them.

IV

Are you visible where decisions happen now?

Whether five different AI systems name your business. Your reviews — how many, how recent, whether anyone replies. And whether anything is measuring results at all.

What an audit actually turns up

Audit Findings

Three findings from real audits. Every one was invisible from inside the business — you cannot see any of them by looking at your own website setup.

Ranking for thirteen searches. Almost nobody clicking.

One page was already coming up in Google for thirteen different searches and getting close to no visitors. Behind the page, the two lines Google reads to build a search result were both blank. On screen it looked finished.

Manufacturer · 13 keywords

A page marked “trial” was live, and Google was showing it

Somebody built a test version of a page and it was never taken down. It sat one click from the home page, fully public, with the word “trial” in its title — indexed alongside the real pages. Nobody inside the business knew.

Google’s AI quoted their blog and never mentioned what they sell

When Google’s AI answered questions about their trade, it quoted their advice pages thirteen times out of fourteen. It never once mentioned the thing the business actually sells.

We look from the outside, the way a customer does.

No logins, no passwords, nothing installed on your website — a customer looking for you does not have them either. And looking properly means opening things. A free automated scan reports a page as healthy if it loads. It cannot tell you the page is empty. We open them.

04

What changed, and why it matters now

AI Search

For twenty years, being found meant ranking on a page of blue links. That page is now increasingly answered before it is read — Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode, and assistants like ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, synthesise a reply above the results and name a handful of businesses inside it.

Being named in the answer is worth more than ranking third below it. The audit tests all five separately and dates every result, because they do not move together and a single blended figure would mislead.

Same work. Two results.

There is no AI trick to buy. Google’s own guidance for its AI features says there are no special optimisations to make — it says keep your structured data accurate and your Business Profile up to date. Which means the work that makes a business findable in Google is largely the work that makes it citable in an AI answer.

How the Findability Audit works

The Process
01

A conversation

Twenty minutes with Garry Godfrey. No obligation, and nothing to prepare. We need your website address, what you do, and where your customers are.

02

We go looking

We work entirely from the outside — the way a customer would. Nothing is needed from you. No logins, no passwords, no developer, and nothing installed on your website.

03

Your report, walked through

Inside seven to ten business days. Plain English, with every item marked you can fix this or we can fix this — then a call to walk through what it found.

04

You decide what happens next

What you can fix yourself is marked clearly and that advice is free. Anything you would rather have handled is quoted from the report, not pitched at you.

What you get

No Jargon · No Pressure · No Obligation
No jargon

Written in plain English — nothing you will need to look up.

No pressure

Everything you can fix yourself is marked, and that advice is free.

No obligation

The report is yours to keep, whatever you decide to do next.

Where it fits

The Findability Audit works on its own, or as a next step. Some businesses come straight to it. Others are pointed here after a wider review of the numbers and the systems, once it is clear that being found is what is holding growth back. Either way it is a complete piece of work — and every finding is marked as one you can implement yourself, or one we can implement for you.

Common questions

FAQ
Do you need my website passwords or logins?

No. The audit is done from the outside, the way a customer would find you. We need nothing from you — no logins, no passwords, and nothing installed on your website.

How long does it take?

Seven to ten business days from the initial conversation.

Is this an automated scan?

No. A real person in Australia does the work. An automated scan reports a page as healthy if it loads — it cannot tell you the page is empty. We open them.

What does the audit cover?

Your website setup, your Google Business Profile, the map results, your directory and review listings, and whether AI systems name your business. Every finding is marked as one you can fix yourself or one we can fix for you.

I already have someone doing SEO. Is this still useful?

Yes — this is an independent check on that work. If everything is healthy you will know, and that is worth knowing. If it is not, you will have a specific list rather than a feeling.

What do I get at the end?

A written report in plain English with a prioritised list of findings, plus a conversation with Garry Godfrey to walk through it. The report is yours to keep whatever you decide to do next.
